Requirements
- Proven experience in obsolescence management within engineering or defence environments
- Experience managing Change Queries (CQ), technical investigations, and lifecycle support issues
- Knowledge of IEC 62402:2019 Obsolescence Management principles
- Experience producing technical reports, solution papers, and engineering evidence documentation
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing competing priorities
- Strong stakeholder management skills across engineering, support, and delivery teams
- Defence industry experience, particularly supporting MOD/DE&S programmes, is desirable
- Familiarity with supportability engineering processes, through-life capability management, engineering change management, AS-1111 requirements, and structured project governance environments is desirable
Responsibilities
- Operate in accordance with the project Obsolescence Management Plan and review, maintain, and update it as required
- Ensure activities align with project plans, bids, schedules, and delivery milestones
- Investigate obsolescence-related Change Query Issues as directed by the Project Obsolescence Manager
- Assess and prioritise obsolescence queries according to project KPIs
- Ensure timely submission of investigations and manage additional CQIs efficiently, prioritising urgent and high-impact requirements
- Evaluate obsolescence risks associated with Change Queries
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies in accordance with IEC 62402:2019 Obsolescence Management standards
- Provide technical recommendations to reduce lifecycle and supportability risks
- Produce comprehensive solution documents with technical evidence to support Change Query Final Answers
- Ensure documentation meets SCC acceptance criteria and maintains quality standards
- Ensure solutions meet the intent of AS-1111 requirements, are technically accurate, safe, suitable for implementation, and clearly and professionally presented

We are seeking an experienced Obsolescence Management Engineer to support a major defence engineering programme on a 12-month remote contract. This is an outside IR35 freelance opportunity with a rate of £48-£53 per hour. The role is remote and UK-based, with an ASAP start dependent on onboarding. You will work closely with the Project Obsolescence Manager, Support Capabilities and Consumables, and wider engineering stakeholders to help ensure timely resolution of obsolescence issues throughout the asset lifecycle.
