Job Description
Sr.
Database Administrator - GOAPRDJP00000706 9942 - 108 ST Edmonton Remote work - however, in the event of an on-site meeting Standard Background & Enhanced Background check required This role is responsible for building, maintaining, and performance tuning production databases to deliver databases with appropriate levels of data availability and performance.
This role is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database procedures and standards. Provide technical expertise in database management systems to support systems development and operational activities.
Create and maintain the logical and physical structures of databases and related structures required by database applications.Monitor database applications, databases and DBMS statistics and recommend the appropriate changes to improve performance.Maintain database authorization requirements.Maintain and enforce database security standards and procedures.Evaluate application and user requirements and recommend appropriate database modifications.Provide technical expertise to development teams, Application Maintenance Services and business teams if engaged.Perform troubleshooting activities for database problems, database software problems and database application problems.Perform DBMS software installations, plan and test upgrades.Plan, test and implement software patches and application updates or upgrades.Disaster recovery preparation and testing.Develop and maintain technical documentation.Develop and automate system related procedures.Perform problem diagnosis, troubleshooting and resolution.Monitor on-going operations and perform on-going system administration tasks: release new versions; database tuning; capacity planning; historical archiving; database consistency and integrity checking; log file analysis; job scheduling; scripting; indexes; reorganizations; change control; and server requirements analysis.Must-Have's:DBA experience within an environment of similar size and complexity of Government of Alberta - 8 yearsExperience and technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server - 2 yearsExperience as a SQL Infrastructure DBA (Backups, replication, installation, configuration) - 4 yearsExperience with Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or higher - 8 yearsExperience with PowerBI, PowerView, Microsoft SQL Reporting, and Analytical Services - 4 years Server High Availability GroupsExperience with SQL Server High Availability Groups - 4 years Experience working with querying data with Microsoft Transact-SQL Server - 6 yearsNice-to-Have's:Experience with Amazon Web Services databases - 1 yearsExperience with Azure SQL - 1 yearsExperience with migrating on-premise databases to Azure or AWS - 1 yearsExperience with open-source databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, CosmosDB, etc. - 1 yearsExperience with PowerBI querying Azure SQL - 1 yearsExperience with SQL Server Integration Services - 1 yearsExperience with SQL Server replication - 4 yearsExperience with troubleshooting performance issues within SQL Server 2016 or higher - 2 yearsExperience working in a Help Desk type of environment where the work is delivered through a ticket or email - 4 yearsExperience working in a multi-tenancy environment where developers do not have access to secured environments like User Acceptance Test or Production - 4 yearsExperience working with Oracle 19c or higher - 1 years
