Senior Python Software Engineer

Salary: £70,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements

• We require at least 7 years of commercial experience developing software in Python across Linux and Windows environments, including Intel and ARM-based platforms.
• We require proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitLab, alongside automated testing and code quality tooling.
• We require a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, including unit testing, regression testing, and test planning.
• We require experience working within Agile development teams, with hands-on use of Git, Jira, and collaborative development workflows.
• We require experience with GUI development frameworks such as wxPython.
• We require knowledge of database design, management, and optimisation.
• We require experience developing and supporting ETL and data processing pipelines.
• We require an understanding of Linux operating systems and distribution internals.
• We require permanent and unrestricted right to work in the UK, as sponsorship is not available for this role.

Responsibilities

• We support software development activities across R&D tooling, data infrastructure, and automated development pipelines.
• We develop and maintain internal software systems, databases, and ETL pipelines.
• We support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality, security scanning, and documentation generation processes.
• We produce and maintain technical documentation and ensure traceability throughout the software development lifecycle.
• We contribute to coding standards, software architecture, and engineering best practices across projects.
• We communicate project progress, risks, and technical challenges effectively with engineering leadership.
• We provide technical mentorship, code reviews, and continuous improvement support to wider R&D software teams.
• We ensure software development activities adhere to industry regulations and standards.

We are hiring a Senior Python Software Engineer based in Bristol with remote working and a monthly site visit. This role sits within our Research & Development environment, supporting internal software systems, tooling, databases, ETL pipelines, and automated development processes that underpin software reliability, security, scalability, and regulatory compliance. We offer a salary of £65,000 to £75,000 depending on experience.
