Salary: £70,000 - 70,000 per year
Requirements
- MSc in computer science, IT or a related field, or in bioinformatics with demonstrated IT expertise
- Expert in Data Modelling and Advanced SQL
- Proficiency in Python programming
- Proficiency in ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools for large-scale data processing
- Strong understanding of relational databases
- Extensive hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, partitioning strategies, indexing techniques, and query optimisation
- Extensive experience with Oracle databases, including PL/SQL, and performance optimisation
- Familiarity with MySQL/MariaDB
- Proven experience in migrating databases across different RDBMS platforms
- Experience with migration tools such as Oracle Data Pump, GoldenGate, and custom ETL scripts
- Knowledge of data warehousing technologies (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Proficiency in oral and written English
- Potential additional qualifications include:
- - PhD in relevant fields
- - Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop)
- - Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
- - Familiarity with Java, Google Cloud Platform, AWS
- - Knowledge of data modelling for AI and ML applications
- - Familiarity with Neo4J or similar graph databases
- - Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI)
- - Knowledge or affinity with structural biology and bioinformatics
Responsibilities
- Analyse existing data pipelines and identify areas for improvement, optimisation, and scalability
- Work closely with Bioinformaticians and annotators to integrate data pipelines with existing systems and applications
- Monitor data pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure reliability and efficiency
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data engineering
- Recommend new technologies or tools to enhance data infrastructure
- Document data pipelines, processes, and workflows for internal reference and knowledge sharing
