Site Reliability Engineer with Python

Salary: £58,000 - 98,000 per year

Requirements

• We require 7+ years of experience with software engineering, software development, and/or system operations.
• We require experience debugging complex problems and implementing timely, cost-effective solutions.
• We require experience designing, building, and operating large-scale production systems.
• We prefer deep knowledge of Python, though other languages such as Java, Go, Rust, or similar will also be strongly considered.
• We require experience using source control tools such as Git and GitHub, including feature branching strategies.
• We require experience with open-source databases such as MySQL, Postgres, and Redis.
• We require experience with DevOps engineering and container orchestration tools such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• We require experience with log monitoring and observability platforms such as Sumologic or Cloudwatch.
• We require experience automating infrastructure, testing, and deployments using tools such as CircleCI.
• We prefer configuration management tooling and infrastructure as code knowledge, but it is not required.
• We require experience working with AWS services; knowledge of Azure or Google ecosystems is helpful but not required.
• We require strong familiarity with modern web and mobile application development, including hands-on experience with JavaScript, Typescript preferred, and Python stacks.
• We require cross-functional collaboration experience, especially working with engineers, user experience/product designers, and external stakeholders.
• We require strong skills in weighing and managing scope, risk, quality, and timelines.
• We require a strong focus on quality, security, performance, and end-user experience.

Responsibilities

• We will deploy, manage, troubleshoot, and enhance our complex cloud-based internal tools and externally managed services.
• We will keep our suite of internal apps and services up and running, or restore them quickly if a failure occurs.
• We will act as the technical point person for operational responsibility on two core platforms, one mobile and one web application, including escalations from the IT support group.
• We will work closely with internal partners, teams, and external vendors to ensure software meets our code quality, security, and performance requirements.
• We will write, update, and use documentation, including runbooks and playbooks.
• We will help automate existing workflows or build new internal workflows, including infrastructure needs, testing, and failover mitigations.
• We will debug complex problems across our web and mobile application stack, advise key stakeholders on solutions, and implement solutions where appropriate.
• We will further our internal CI/CD processes to improve release cadence and developer experience.
• We will participate in the daily and weekly software development process, including standups, sprint planning, retros, and issue tracking.
• We will actively lead critical issue post-mortem processes, including coordinating meetings and follow-up actions.

We are an exciting organisation based in Central London and New York, and this position can be based in London or New York. We offer a permanent full-time opportunity with some remote working possible. The salary is circa 80K to 100K. This is a Site Reliability Engineer role with Python, working closely with IT, product, and engineering teams to support internal tools, external services, and operational excellence across our organisation.
