Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements

• We require strong experience as a Technical Architect or Senior Solution Architect.
• We require extensive hands-on experience with the AWS cloud platform.
• We require experience designing large-scale, distributed systems.
• We require strong knowledge of microservices architecture.
• We require strong knowledge of event-driven systems such as SNS, SQS, Kinesis, and EventBridge.
• We require strong knowledge of serverless architecture.
• We require experience with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
• We require knowledge of containerisation, including Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
• We require a strong understanding of networking, security, and identity in AWS.
• We prefer experience working in the UK public sector or other regulated environments.
• We prefer familiarity with GDS Service Standards and agile delivery models.
• We require the ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation.
• We require clearance at BPSS level.
• Government experience is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• We design end-to-end AWS cloud architectures for high-availability, secure, and scalable government systems.
• We define and maintain solution architecture blueprints, HLDs, LLDs, and technical roadmaps.
• We lead architectural decisions across microservices, event-driven architecture, and serverless patterns.
• We ensure solutions comply with GDS standards, NCSC security principles, and DWP architecture governance.
• We provide technical leadership across DevOps, engineering, and platform teams.
• We define cloud landing zones, networking setups such as VPCs, subnets, and routing, and multi-account AWS strategies.
• We support implementation of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• We ensure robust security architecture, including IAM, encryption, secrets management, and zero trust principles.
• We evaluate and select AWS services such as Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and RDS.
• We work with solution designers and engineers to ensure designs are implemented correctly.
• We participate in architecture review boards and governance forums.
• We identify risks and technical debt and propose remediation strategies.
