Requirements

  • We need practical experience building robust, cross-browser, and cross-device user interfaces.
  • We need practical experience building accessible interfaces that work for as many users as possible, regardless of their needs.

  • We need detailed knowledge of modern JavaScript, including libraries and frameworks such as ReactJS, NextJs, Vite, and Nuqs.
  • We need a detailed understanding of progressive enhancement and other front-end software design principles.
  • We need the ability to demonstrate the person specification criteria throughout the recruitment process.
  • We need a candidate who can work in a role based in Manchester and attend in-person interviews at our Manchester office.

Responsibilities

  • We design and build robust, secure front-end web applications.
  • We write maintainable, well-tested code using modern front-end technologies.
  • We work collaboratively as part of an Agile, multidisciplinary delivery team.
  • We ensure our services meet accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA, and follow NICE and GDS best practice.
  • We participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentoring activities.
  • We support live services and help identify and resolve technical issues.
  • We work with the wider Engineering Team to prototype, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies such as generative AI into secure, reusable, and production-ready front-end components.
  • We contribute to technical decisions and support the development of more junior colleagues.

We are the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and our Engineering team designs, builds, and runs the digital services that underpin nationally relied upon health and care guidance used by millions of people. We create secure, reliable software that supports both internal guidance production and public-facing services such as the NICE website, BNF, and Clinical Knowledge Summaries. This is a fixed-term Senior Front-End Developer role based in Manchester for 22 months, with a salary of £49,387 to £56,515 a year plus a 13% per annum recruitment and retention payment.
