Salary: £43,000 - 70,000 per year
Requirements
- We require 5+ years of experience with at least one programming language; while we use Go, experience in any major language such as Python, .NET, Java, or Rust is acceptable if you are willing to learn Go.
- We require in-depth knowledge of at least one major cloud provider, including core services, APIs, identity and access models, networking, and operational patterns.
- We require experience with cloud-based software development and production systems.
- We require experience writing clean, maintainable, robust, and performant software.
- We require familiarity with observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, and OpenTelemetry.
- We require experience driving projects from ideation to production.
- We require experience with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- We require excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
- We require experience participating in an on-call rotation and incident management.
- We prefer experience designing and building observability backends for various systems and applications.
- We prefer experience contributing to or maintaining open source projects, with evidence of successful pull requests and community collaboration.
- We prefer understanding of metrics collection, visualization, and alerting concepts.
- We value a passion for observability and the ability to share knowledge through documentation and blog posts.
- We value strong communication skills and the ability to engage with customers.
- We value relevant open source experience, ideally in the observability domain.
- We value willingness to become an active member of the OpenTelemetry and Prometheus communities.
- We value curiosity, a desire to learn new programming languages and frameworks, and the ability to figure out how things work.
- We value experience operating production services and organizing on-call.

Responsibilities
- We design and implement high-quality, scalable integrations for infrastructure components, databases, and applications.
- We create middleware components, SDKs, and libraries that simplify the development and maintenance of observability solutions.
- We represent Grafana Labs in open source forums, working groups, and events when necessary.
- We work with product teams, design, and docs to develop features that align with product strategy and customer needs.
- We support the technical direction and vision of the team and contribute to strategic discussions and future development of observability solutions.
- We collaborate with Sales, Product, and Support teams to deliver a holistic product experience.
- We participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take ownership of the services we run.
- We contribute to open source projects that may not directly fall within our teams scope.
- We contribute to the design, build, and scale of our Cloud Observability product suite, including Kubernetes monitoring and Cloud Provider observability solutions.
- We help customers collect, visualize, analyze, and understand metrics and logs data from cloud provider services.
- We estimate, plan, coordinate, and deliver large tasks spanning multiple systems.
- We coach and mentor other team members.
- We identify and resolve issues with technology and product processes.
