Responsibilities

• We define and own the technical architecture across the programme, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to NHS standards and frameworks.
• We provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams, setting direction on tooling, patterns, and best practice.
• We design and oversee cloud infrastructure on AWS, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
• We drive Java-based development standards and architectural decisions across the codebase.
• We engage with NHS stakeholders and third-party suppliers to align technical approaches with programme requirements.
• We identify and manage technical risk, producing documentation and recommendations to support governance and assurance processes.
• We support technical onboarding of new team members and suppliers.
• We contribute to technical planning, roadmaps, and delivery timelines.

We are supporting a consultancy on a major NHS digital programme and are seeking an experienced Technical Architect to help shape and drive the technical direction of a complex, large-scale delivery. This is a senior role where we need someone who can operate confidently at both strategic and hands-on levels, bringing together architecture, engineering, and stakeholder management in a fast-paced NHS environment. The position is remote, with an occasional need to attend London roughly once per quarter. The contract is for 6 months with a view to extend, and the day rate is £700/day inside IR35. The key technologies for this role are Java and AWS.
