Requirements

  • We need a Ph.D. or masters degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • We need a demonstrated track record of designing, developing, and deploying data science and machine learning solutions in commercial environments.
  • We need expertise in statistical or econometric modeling and optimization techniques.
  • We need proven ability to independently manage complex projects under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
  • We need strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • We need cross-functional team collaboration experience with product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • We consider experience in pricing data science desirable, particularly within the fuel or retail sectors.
  • We need advanced proficiency in Python and/or R for data science development.
  • We need proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
  • We need experience with version control (Git) and modern software engineering practices including code review and collaborative development.
  • We consider familiarity with generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot desirable to support development and enhance productivity.
  • We consider knowledge of solution deployment with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, including containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines desirable.

Responsibilities

  • We design, develop, and deploy advanced data science solutions across our product portfolio, with a particular focus on our pricing product suite.
  • We apply statistical and econometric modeling, time series analysis, optimization methods, and generative AI to improve demand modeling, elasticity estimation, price recommendation, competition analytics, and related challenges.
  • We develop reusable tools, frameworks, and components to accelerate value delivery from data science.
  • We deploy scalable and maintainable solutions to cloud environments, using version control practices and strong code quality and documentation standards.
  • We work independently and as part of our Data Science Research team, contributing to research prioritisation and technical direction with the Director and Product leadership.
  • We deliver high-quality, innovative solutions and champion best practices so our research outputs are reproducible, scalable, and maintainable.
  • We help evaluate and adopt appropriate tools, programming languages, and technologies.
  • We mentor junior team members and support their professional development.
  • We identify and contribute to patent opportunities and our intellectual property portfolio.
  • We collaborate across Development, Product, Analytics, and Commercial teams to ensure solutions address business challenges and stakeholder objectives.
  • We partner with operational teams to ensure data pipelines and infrastructure are robust, secure, and optimized for research and production workloads.
  • We communicate technical concepts and outcomes effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • We stay current with developments in data science, machine learning, and AI, applying state-of-the-art techniques to our project work.
  • We build comprehensive knowledge of the retail fuel industry to understand domain challenges and help guide product innovation.
  • We share knowledge and promote best practices across our team and company.
