Alation Technical Engineer

Salary: £40,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements

• We need hands-on experience implementing and administering the Alation Data Catalog.
• We need a strong understanding of metadata management, data governance, data cataloging, business glossaries, and data lineage.
• We need experience onboarding metadata from databases, cloud platforms, BI tools, and legacy sources such as Excel files, CSVs, and data dictionaries.
• We need familiarity with SQL, APIs, metadata integration patterns, and authentication mechanisms such as SSO, SAML, and OAuth.
• We need strong troubleshooting, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• We install, deploy, and upgrade Alation platform components across cloud and on-premises environments.
• We configure integrations with enterprise infrastructure, authentication services, and security frameworks.
• We configure platform settings, user roles, permissions, workflows, stewardship, and governance features.
• We perform platform administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and regular maintenance.
• We connect and onboard databases, data warehouses, BI tools, data lakes, and other enterprise data sources into Alation.
• We support migration of metadata from legacy repositories and existing catalog or governance tools into Alation.
• We enable metadata extraction, profiling, lineage capture, catalog enrichment, and metadata quality processes.
• We support bulk metadata import, mapping, transformation, and reconciliation when metadata comes from outside automated connectors.
• We apply Alation, metadata management, and data governance best practices to support successful platform adoption.
• We provide technical guidance, issue resolution, and operational support to business and technical stakeholders.
• We develop documentation, operational procedures, metadata onboarding standards, and knowledge transfer materials.
• We collaborate with data owners, stewards, architects, and governance teams to improve metadata coverage, quality, and usability.
