AWS Platform Engineer

Salary: £30,000 - 55,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong, hands-on Terraform experience, including modules, state management, and remote backends
• AWS expertise across core services, including EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, and CloudWatch
• Linux system administration experience in an enterprise environment, ideally with RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu
• Experience writing and managing Ansible playbooks for configuration and deployment
• Demonstrable NHS experience, with familiarity in NHS Digital standards, governance, or HSCN environments
• Experience in public sector or other regulated cloud environments is desirable
• Prior Puppet experience is advantageous
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar is desirable

Responsibilities

• Design, provision, and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform as our primary infrastructure-as-code tool
• Lead the transition from Puppet to Terraform-based configuration management
• Write and maintain Ansible playbooks for configuration, patching, and deployment tasks
• Manage and support Linux-based server environments across our platform
• Ensure our infrastructure is secure, scalable, and aligned with NHS standards and compliance requirements
• Collaborate with DevOps, security, and application teams to deliver reliable cloud environments
• Support incident resolution and platform troubleshooting as required
• Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and platform engineering best practices

We are hiring an experienced AWS Platform Engineer to join a critical NHS programme on a contract basis. This role is based in Leeds with onsite attendance required one day per month. The contract runs until November 2026 and is inside IR35, with a day rate of £650. You will work in a complex, regulated healthcare environment, helping us design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure while leading the migration from Puppet to a fully Terraform-driven platform.
