Salary: £45,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements

• We require a bachelors or masters degree in computer science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• We require 7-12 years of experience in graph databases, semantic modelling, and ontology engineering.
• We require expertise in Cypher, Gremlin, and SPARQL, with a strong understanding of LPG vs RDF/OWL trade-offs.
• We require hands-on production experience with Neo4j, AWS Neptune, TigerGraph, or Stardog.
• We require experience mapping enterprise data from sources such as Snowflake, MongoDB, SharePoint, and ERP systems into graph and ontology layers.
• We require a solid grasp of RBAC/RACI, data governance, lineage, and security controls.
• We require the ability to design clean APIs for semantic enrichment and retrieval.
• We require familiarity with AWS services such as IAM, VPC, S3, EKS, ECS, and Lambda in collaboration with platform teams.
• We would prefer experience with ontology tooling such as Protégé, SHACL/SWRL, and reasoning engines.
• We would prefer prior delivery of enterprise knowledge graphs supporting workflows and audit trails.
• We would prefer exposure to vector retrieval and understanding of how graph context informs data re-ranking.
• We would prefer knowledge of observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Responsibilities

• We design scalable graph schemas using LPG and/or RDF/OWL to meet semantic and inference requirements.
• We author and optimise queries using Cypher, Gremlin, and SPARQL for data traversal and reasoning.
• We define canonical entity models and mapping layers to integrate diverse data sources.
• We create and maintain formal ontologies and taxonomies, including their versioning and lifecycle governance.
• We implement logical inference for agent decision-making and workflow integrity.
• We establish standards for semantic consistency and data quality checks.
• We design a hybrid semantic layer that combines graph context with business logic for enhanced search and knowledge contextualization.
• We model RACI/RBAC as graph edges and nodes, embedding compliance rules for auditability.
• We define clean API layers for semantic enrichment and retrieval and deliver reference implementations.
• We collaborate with platform engineers on agent connectivity and tool discovery patterns.
• We partner with data, platform, and security teams on governance and observability.
• We set performance budgets to ensure efficient query execution and prevent issues.
• We establish lineage and governance artefacts such as semantic catalogues and audit trails.
• We document standards and mentor engineers in adopting graph and semantic patterns.
