Salary: £136,500 - 143,000 per year

Requirements

• We require experience supporting MOD Communications and Information Systems (CIS) environments.
• We require experience with BCIP and/or OpNET.
• We require Linux experience.
• We require experience building and managing Windows and Linux virtual machines.
• We require experience installing, configuring, and securing laptops and end-user devices.
• We require experience administering Active Directory.
• We require an understanding of AI use cases and Large Language Models (LLMs).
• We require Kubernetes installation and cluster administration experience.
• We require Proxmox hypervisor experience.
• We require experience with server installation, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• We require networking engineering knowledge at CCNA level or equivalent.
• We require cloud infrastructure experience, particularly with Azure and Oracle Cloud.
• We require active SC Clearance due to programme requirements.

Responsibilities

• We manage and maintain secure on-premise and cloud-based test and development environments.
• We build, configure, and administer Windows and Linux virtual machines.
• We install, configure, and secure laptops and user devices in line with MOD security standards.
• We administer Active Directory environments and user access controls.
• We support secure remote access solutions for authorised users.
• We ensure infrastructure availability, performance, and resilience across development and test environments.
• We perform vulnerability management, patching, and security assurance activities.
• We maintain technical documentation, configuration records, and architecture diagrams.
• We support deployable CIS capabilities for exercises and operational activities.
• We assist with the deployment and integration of emerging digital technologies, including AI and Large Language Model environments.
• We troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, system, and connectivity issues.
• We work closely with engineers, developers, and stakeholders across the programme.

We are seeking an experienced CIS Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer to support a Defence technology programme focused on the delivery, maintenance, and enhancement of secure development, test, and deployable environments. This is a hands-on engineering role supporting a mixture of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable, and resilient environments are available for development, testing, and operational activities. The role is based in Blandford, Dorset, primarily onsite with some hybrid working available, and has a duration of 9 months starting on 1st July 2026. We offer the opportunity to work across infrastructure, virtualisation, cloud services, security assurance, and deployable CIS capabilities, supporting both technical teams and end users.
