NLP Engineer

Salary: £45,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong commercial Python experience
• Hands-on Natural Language Processing experience
• Experience with document extraction or unstructured text
• Experience working on live production software
• Good understanding of debugging, testing and release processes
• Experience with tools such as spaCy, NLTK, NER or equivalent NLP technologies
• LLM / Generative AI exposure is useful but not essential
• AWS is useful but not essential
• Elasticsearch / OpenSearch is useful but not essential
• OCR is useful but not essential
• C# / .NET is useful but not essential
• Experience in LegalTech, FinTech, RegTech or other document-heavy environments is useful but not essential

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Python-based NLP and document-processing services
• Extract and process information from Word documents, PDFs and unstructured text
• Work with NLP techniques such as information extraction, classification, pattern matching and entity extraction
• Investigate and resolve issues in a live production environment
• Debug, test and release fixes
• Contribute to new document-intelligence functionality
• Work with modern LLM technology alongside more traditional NLP approaches

We are a growing SaaS technology company building and supporting production NLP and document-processing technology. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on improving how our live software platform extracts and processes information from complex documents. You will work closely with a Senior NLP Specialist, initially supporting the existing production environment and gradually taking ownership of larger features and new functionality. This is not a research or proof-of-concept role; we are looking for someone who enjoys applying NLP to real software used by real customers. The salary is up to £70,000 and the role is fully remote across the UK.
