Remote Senior Backend Engineer

Salary: £45,000 - 85,000 per year

Requirements

• We have strong experience in PHP 8.4 and Laravel 12 development, with a deep understanding of the relevant concepts and best practices.
• We are familiar with microservices architecture and event-driven design.
• We are proficient in designing and maintaining MongoDB databases.
• We have experience with Docker for containerization and deployment of microservices.
• We have knowledge and experience with core AWS services, including ECS, EC2, S3, and SQS.
• We are proficient in using Git for version control.
• We are detail-oriented with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and we can work in an agile environment.
• We are passionate about staying updated with the latest technologies and continuously improving the technology stack.
• We have strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills, with a positive, can-do attitude.
• We are resilient, adaptable, and self-motivated, and effective both independently and in team environments.
• Ideally, we have experience developing services and/or AWS Lambdas using GoLang.
• Ideally, we have knowledge of configuring infrastructure using Terraform.
• Ideally, we have knowledge and experience with CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• We collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, product managers, and quality assurance, to gather requirements and design, develop, and implement microservices using PHP Laravel.
• We write unit and integration tests using TDD best practices to ensure the reliability and stability of the code.
• We optimise and maintain MongoDB databases for efficient performance, including maintaining Atlas search indexing and using aggregation pipelines.
• We work with Docker to deploy and manage microservices in a scalable, containerised environment.
• We utilise AWS services to build and deploy microservices in a cloud-based environment.
• We participate in CI/CD processes, including automated build, test, and deployment pipelines, to ensure smooth and efficient software delivery.
• We use Git for version control and collaborate with other team members to ensure effective code management.
• We collaborate with other backend engineers to identify, manage, and prioritise tech debt.
• We stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, and proactively suggest improvements to our technology stack.
