Requirements
- Strong HTML5 and CSS3 skills
- Good knowledge of CSS Flexbox and CSS Grid
- Experience building responsive websites
- Basic JavaScript knowledge
- A good understanding of cross-browser compatibility
- The ability to work accurately from supplied designs
- An understanding of semantic HTML and web accessibility
- Angular knowledge
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good testing and troubleshooting skills
- The ability to manage your own workload and deliver work reliably
- Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS)
- Experience with Git and version control
- Experience with browser developer tools and debugging
- Experience with reusable CSS components or design systems
- Experience with WCAG and web accessibility standards
- Experience with school or education websites
- Experience using AI development tools to improve productivity, testing and code quality
Responsibilities
- Build new school website themes within our School Jotter CMS
- Turn supplied designs and briefs into accurate, high-quality websites
- Write clean, well-structured HTML5 and CSS3
- Create responsive layouts using Flexbox and CSS Grid
- Add JavaScript functionality where required
- Make sure websites work well across desktop, tablet and mobile
- Test websites across modern browsers and devices
- Check typography, spacing, alignment, imagery, colours and overall consistency
- Identify and fix styling, layout and functionality issues before websites go live
- Maintain and improve existing School Jotter themes
- Work with designers, developers and other members of our School Jotter team
- Help us improve and standardise our library of reusable themes and components

We are School Jotter, a website and digital platform used by schools to manage their websites, content and communications. We are looking for a Front end Theme Web Developer to join our team and build high-quality, responsive website themes for schools using our in-house CMS. This is a hands-on front-end development role where you will work on a wide variety of school websites, develop your front-end skills, and help improve the next generation of our website themes and components. We are an established education technology company that has been building digital products for schools and organisations for more than 20 years. This is a hybrid remote role based in Ilkley, and the role includes benefits such as casual dress, company pension, free parking, and on-site parking.
