Development Team Lead (Ruby on Rails)

Salary: £70,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong commercial Ruby on Rails experience
• Previous experience mentoring, leading, or managing engineers
• Comfortable balancing people leadership with hands-on engineering
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Experience working with mature or legacy codebases
• Ability to improve team processes and engineering culture
• Good understanding of delivery, prioritisation, and team collaboration
• High emotional intelligence and a supportive leadership style
• Product awareness and pragmatic technical decision-making
• Positive attitude toward AI-assisted development and modern tooling
• Useful experience coaching or mentoring engineers
• Useful experience leading delivery within small product teams
• Useful experience with AI-assisted development workflows
• Useful experience with agile delivery within SME SaaS businesses

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support a small team of Ruby engineers
• Remain hands-on with Ruby on Rails development where needed
• Work closely with the Tech Lead on delivery, planning, and team direction
• Help improve engineering processes, communication, and team collaboration
• Support performance management, coaching, and career development
• Contribute to architecture discussions and platform modernisation
• Help the team work effectively with AI-assisted engineering tools
• Create a positive, accountable, and delivery-focused team culture
