Requirements

• We require a minimum of 5 years of experience in a data centre operations role, with hands-on experience in equipment decommissioning, space optimisation, and infrastructure documentation.
• We require hands-on infrastructure engineering experience across VMware, storage, and server technologies.
• We require strong knowledge of on-prem IT infrastructure, including x86 hardware, Windows, Linux, virtualisation platforms, security, networking, and storage technologies.
• We require experience with physical network and server hardware, including installation, cabling, and troubleshooting.
• We require familiarity with data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and asset management software.
• We require familiarity with out-of-band management platforms such as iLO, iDRAC, XCC, and Redfish.
• We require understanding of firmware lifecycle management.
• We require experience creating run book documentation.
• We require strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• We require the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• We require the ability to read and update technical documentation, including floor plans and network diagrams.
• We require knowledge of data centre best practices, including power and cooling management, cable management, and environmental monitoring.
• We require strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• We require a good understanding of lab testing best practices.
• We consider relevant certifications such as CompTIA Data Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP) or similar to be a plus.
• We require the ability to lift and move heavy equipment up to 50 lbs as needed.
• We require the ability to walk and stand in a data centre and lab environment.

Responsibilities

• We will have you independently test and validate systems in a controlled lab environment and troubleshoot issues when things do not go to plan.
• We will have you support on-premise test labs, including pre-production build and testing.
• We will have you manage IP addresses and support network and SAN administration activities.
• We will have you ensure cabling is in place, systems have power, and cable tracing and auditing are completed accurately.
• We will have you manage documentation in Jira and maintain accurate technical records.
• We will have you support installation, decommissioning, and kit moves within the lab and data centre environment.
• We will have you work with enterprise virtualisation environments, including VMware platforms.
• We will have you support firewall technologies, Juniper networking, enterprise switches, block storage, enterprise storage, and compute virtualisation.
• We will have you assist with documentation and inventory management to keep assets and records current.
• We will have you monitor power, cooling, and space utilisation to maintain optimal lab performance and anticipate future needs.
• We will have you collaborate with our IT Infrastructure team to plan for future capacity requirements, including new deployments and upgrades.
• We will have you ensure all work adheres to our policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• We will have you implement and follow best practices for cable management, equipment labelling, and environmental monitoring.
• We will have you work closely with network, server, and storage teams to support their requirements in the data centre.
• We will have you provide hands-on support for equipment installations, demises, moves, and troubleshooting as needed.
• We will have you assist with audits and inspections to ensure the lab remains compliant with relevant standards and regulations.

We are a global technology company seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Centre IT Lab Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team on a 6-month contract with the potential to extend. The role is based in South Yorkshire, with onsite work required 3 to 4 days per week, and offers a day rate of £350 to £380 inside IR35.
