AI Engineer

Salary: £60,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong Python skills
• Good general understanding of LLMs
• Exposure to GenAI, chatbots, NLP, RAG, prompt engineering, or similar technologies
• Interest in AI guardrails and responsible use of AI
• Good software engineering principles
• Awareness of security in modern development
• Willingness to test properly and automate where possible
• Understanding of cloud platforms, ideally Azure, but AWS or GCP is also acceptable
• Ability to learn quickly and determine the right way to use new technologies
• Experience with JavaScript, deep learning, LangChain, LlamaIndex, Azure OpenAI, OpenAI APIs, or similar tools would be beneficial, but is not essential
• Suitable for a graduate with 1 to 2 years of experience, a Python developer moving into AI, a Machine Learning Engineer, or a Data Scientist with strong engineering habits

Responsibilities

• Build and improve AI and LLM features using Python
• Create quick proof of concepts to test ideas
• Take promising ideas into production
• Work with existing LLMs, APIs, and AI services
• Consider guardrails, safety, hallucination risk, and validation
• Build software securely, especially within a regulated product environment
• Support automated testing and treat testing as an essential part of development
• Work in a DevOps environment with automated builds, releases, and deployments
• Understand how the AI module fits into the wider product and customer journey
• Collaborate closely with product and technology leadership to shape how AI is used in the platform

We are a growing fintech scale-up building AI into a customer-facing product used in the affordability and financial services space. We already have an AI virtual assistant within our platform and are now bringing more of that capability in-house. This is a permanent role based in the UK, ideally in the Midlands but with remote working considered, offering a salary of up to £65,000. You will work closely with senior technology leadership and the product team, helping shape how AI is applied in a real-world, regulated software product while having more ownership than you might in a larger organisation.
