What a job trust scan checks
A scan looks at what can be verified from outside the company, without taking anyone's word for it.
- Where the apply link actually goes
- The link is followed to its destination. A link that returns a gone status, or lands on a page saying applications are closed, means the role cannot be applied for no matter how the listing reads. A link that leaves the employer's domain for somewhere unrelated is the single strongest scam signal there is.
- How long the role has been listed
- Measured from when the posting was first seen. A role advertised far longer than comparable ones, without being touched, is the canonical ghost-job pattern. It is not proof of anything on its own, which is why it is weighed rather than used as a verdict.
- Whether the posting is being re-listed
- The same company and title reappearing repeatedly can indicate a pipeline-building advert rather than an opening anyone is filling.
- Scam patterns in the listing itself
- Free-mail contact addresses, placeholder or malformed employer names, urgency language, and requests for payment or identity documents before an interview.
What a scan cannot tell you
It cannot see intent. A company can keep a role open for months after filling it internally, and every external signal will still look healthy. A clean scan rules out the listings that could never have worked; it does not promise anyone is reading applications. Every result shows its reasons so you can disagree with it.
