Software Development Manager / Product Owner

Salary: £48,000 - 72,000 per year

Requirements

• We require proven leadership of software engineering in a regulated or professional services environment, ideally within legal services.
• We require a track record of delivering complex, integrated systems such as case management, finance, Microsoft 365, telephony/CRM, and data/BI platforms.
• We require deep knowledge of modern engineering practices, including Agile, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and microservices or monolith modularisation.
• We require strong cloud experience, with Azure preferred across App Service, Functions, Service Bus, API Management, Key Vault, ADF/Databricks, and SQL.
• We require proficiency with one or more technology stacks, including .NET/C#, TypeScript/Node.js, React/Next.js, SQL, or NoSQL.
• We require excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to translate legal and operational needs into robust technical solutions.
• We require an understanding of GDPR and its principles for confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
• We require candidates who are able to work on site in central Liverpool, with hybrid working available once settled in; we are not considering fully remote candidates.

Responsibilities

• We lead the firms engineering function and set the technical strategy, operating model, and standards for secure, reliable, and compliant software delivery.
• We own the software development lifecycle from discovery and architecture through build, test, release, and support.
• We ensure our technology portfolio supports business goals such as matter velocity, client experience, compliance, and profitability.
• We integrate our systems effectively with legal platforms and Microsoft cloud services.
• We collaborate with stakeholders across the business to understand legal and operational requirements and turn them into practical technical solutions.
• We oversee engineering practices and delivery standards to maintain quality, security, and reliability across our software estate.
