Job Description
Salary: £65,000 - 65,000 per year
Requirements
- Proven experience in full-stack software development, including design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Deep experience in at least one of the following: Java, Python, C#/.NET, or full-stack JavaScript (React, Node.js).
- Flexibility and confidence picking up new technologies as required.
- Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps practices, with a focus on continuous integration and delivery.
- Experience working as a polyglot developer.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
- Knowledge of microservices, containerisation such as Docker and Kubernetes, or serverless architecture.
- Awareness of well-architected and secure-by-design principles.
- Previous experience in a senior engineering role, guiding teams to successful delivery, is desirable.
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages is desirable.
- Experience working on public sector projects is desirable.
- Experience in a consulting environment is desirable.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code and optimise software for performance and scalability.
- Ability to design and implement software that meets business and technical requirements.
- Ability to ensure key business logic is covered by tests.
- Proficiency in automated testing frameworks and ensuring software is reliable and bug-free.
- Experience conducting code reviews and maintaining high coding standards.
- Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Passion for learning new technologies and improving software development processes.
- Drive to adopt new tools and methodologies that enhance team performance and software quality.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain complex software solutions that are robust, secure, tested, and scalable.
- Contribute to software architecture decisions aligned with project and business goals.
- Mentor and support junior engineers to develop their skills and promote best practices.
- Collaborate with product management, UX/UI, DevOps, QA, and other cross-functional teams to meet business requirements.
- Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines to improve development efficiency and software quality.
- Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve team performance and code quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to keep software running smoothly and efficiently.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and integrating them where beneficial.
- Drive improvements in coding standards, testing, and documentation within the team.
- Take part in early-stage project discussions by providing technical insights and recommendations.
- Ensure development processes are followed and contribute to process optimisation initiatives.
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
