Salary: £45,000 - 45,000 per year

Requirements

  • We want you to have experience contributing to product design strategy, problem framing, and propositions using hypothesis-driven approaches.
  • We want you to be able to create and design prototypes using a mix of methods, including paper, clickable, and code-based prototypes.
  • We want you to have strong visual and graphic design skills, including composition, typography, and layout for high-quality interfaces.
  • We want you to design inclusively and meet accessibility standards for diverse user groups.
  • We want you to be proficient in design tools and able to create visually engaging artefacts that communicate intent.
  • We want you to be able to work with other design disciplines to identify user needs and inform design choices.
  • We want you to have experience working with developers and translating design into working software using knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • We want you to use and contribute to design systems.
  • We want you to facilitate activities, present the story of change and impact, and work confidently in ambiguous situations.
  • We want you to understand how code influences design and deployment decisions.
  • We want you to be able to apply information architecture, micro-interactions, design systems, and visual design principles to create prototypes at the right level of fidelity.
  • We want you to understand and communicate the impact of emerging technologies, including large language models and generative AI, on interaction design.
  • We want you to contribute to training and skills transfer, including 1-to-1 pairing and knowledge sharing.
  • We want you to collaborate effectively with designers across content, service, and research disciplines.
  • We would value experience identifying skill gaps in junior designers or client team members and supporting their development.
  • We would value experience working with teams with low design maturity.

Responsibilities

  • We expect you to work in multidisciplinary teams to decide how products should work and why, balancing user needs with organisational goals.
  • We expect you to frame problems as hypotheses, prioritise effectively, and test assumptions.
  • We expect you to generate multiple ideas and measure whether they are successful.
  • We expect you to create prototypes at the right level of detail and test ideas with users to support evidence-based product decisions.
  • We expect you to design for accessibility from start to finish and create experiences that meet diverse needs.
  • We expect you to establish design patterns, use existing design systems, and help improve them.
  • We expect you to work with developers from discovery through to live delivery, turning designs into real products.
  • We expect you to use user feedback to continuously improve products.
  • We expect you to communicate design decisions clearly and tell the story of our work and its impact.
  • We expect you to contribute actively to our Interaction & Product Design practice through engagement and knowledge sharing.
  • We expect you to maintain and update your skills and knowledge to stay current in your field.
  • We expect you to support project delivery and practice-specific tasks with limited ambiguity and guidance from more experienced colleagues.
  • We expect you to support delivery and client relationships.
  • We expect you to contribute to practice growth through internal impact, sharing, and blogging.
  • We expect you to help shape problem framing and develop product propositions that support strategic service direction.
  • We expect you to independently map user interactions and identify key tasks for goal achievement.
  • We expect you to collaborate with other designers to understand user needs and inform design choices.
  • We expect you to facilitate activities that progress the work and present the story of change and impact.
  • We expect you to contribute to and take ownership of training and skills transfer initiatives.
