Job Title: Remote Senior Developer Experience (DevEx) Engineer (AI & Platform) (100% Work From Home) Location: Remote from Latin America Position Type: Full-time Salary: $4,500 - 5,000 USD/month Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Central Time (CT) Job Overview Our Client is a lean, senior-heavy engineering team executing a high-stakes architectural re-platform: moving the business logic of a live travel-operations platform out of the browser and onto a server-authoritative core (NestJS + PostgreSQL on GCP), closing long-standing security gaps, and migrating off a NoSQL store — all while the existing system keeps running and generating revenue.

The target is a modular monolith with clean internal domain boundaries (deliberately not a microservices sprawl), fronted by separate modular web apps per concern. The foundation is already built and running in code; the work ahead is the harder middle — the money paths.

To maintain velocity without sacrificing system integrity, the team aggressively adopts AI-augmented development, with automated guardrails and long-term maintainability prized over short-term output.

The Role Our Client is seeking a pragmatic Senior Developer Experience (DevEx) / Platform Engineer to be the internal "AI Governance" champion and the owner of the safety, testing, and migration infrastructure behind the re-platform.

The primary customers are the internal engineering team, not end-users.

Instead of building product features, the successful candidate builds the test harnesses, migration tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and AI guardrails that let a small senior team change a high-stakes codebase — including with tools like Cursor — without breaking the things that carry revenue.

A concrete mandate, not a generic developer-happiness role: make the system safe to change, and keep it fast to change.

Key Responsibilities Safety nets & testing Builds the characterization / golden-master test infrastructure around the critical "money paths" — pricing, payment status, and the accounting engine.

Today these run as large, untested client-side services; characterizing them means extracting that logic, capturing real input fixtures, and building the parity oracle the new server-side modules must match before cutover.

This is a blocking prerequisite for the next phase of the rebuild — high-impact, early work. Advocates for automated testing as the backbone of the migration, and brings the judgment to preserve existing behavior (including known bugs) until a deliberate decision changes it.

Keeps long-term system health and architectural consistency across the modules of the monolith.

Data migration Continues and completes the migration of live data from a NoSQL store (Firestore) to PostgreSQL — building on a migration already underway (real schema, TypeORM migrations, and reference data already moving) toward the harder transactional and financial data, with reconciliation and a clean, reversible cutover.

This is a substantial migration of money-bearing data, not a schema exercise.

AI governance & tooling Collaborates with the Tech Lead to write and enforce architectural rules (e.g. .cursorrules) governing how AI assistants interact with the codebase — and codifies where AI-assisted changes are safe versus where they require careful human review (the accounting and pricing logic are the danger zones).

Integrates AI review tools into the pull-request process to summarize changes, catch errors, and enforce standards. Continuously evaluates new AI developer tools, APIs, and CLI utilities to remove operational bottlenecks.

Platform & developer velocity Automates module/service scaffolding consistent with the monolith's conventions (NestJS modules, DTOs, migrations, CI/CD config). Implements automated quality gates in deployment pipelines: linting, type-checking, and mutation testing.

Identifies and removes friction in the day-to-day engineering loop across the API, shared packages, and the frontend apps.

Qualifications, Skills and Key Competencies Required Core stack: Strong Node.js and TypeScript with NestJS experience, and real PostgreSQL depth — schema design, query performance, and migrations under load (the team uses TypeORM).

Data migration: Hands-on experience migrating from NoSQL to SQL (or comparable live data migrations), ideally zero-downtime and with reconciliation.

Testing for legacy code: Expert understanding of automated testing and CI/CD — especially characterization / golden-master testing of untested or organically-grown code, including the pragmatics of extracting entangled logic to make it testable.

AI automation: A track record of scripting with LLM APIs or CLI tools to automate infrastructure, generate documentation, or analyze codebases. Infrastructure: DevOps / Platform Engineering / Backend Architecture experience with Docker, GCP, and GitHub Actions.

Soft skills: High emotional intelligence and diplomacy; the ability to work effectively with protective, highly experienced senior engineers.

Maintainability mindset: Long-term system health and clean code, with pragmatism scaled to a small team (the simplest thing that works, not the enterprise-grade thing). Strong pluses GCP / Firebase familiarity (the migration is specifically off Firestore).

Angular experience (the frontend apps and shared SDK are Angular). Experience integrating with third-party financial or operational APIs (e.g. accounting systems).

Our Client's Tech Stack Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, TypeORM, Docker, modular-monolith architecture Databases: PostgreSQL (GCP Cloud SQL), migrating from Firebase / Firestore Frontend (context, not the focus of this role): Angular, Ionic, Tailwind CSS, a shared component SDK Cloud & CI/CD: Google Cloud Platform (GCP), GitHub Actions AI tooling: Cursor (AI IDE), AI code-review agents (e.g.

CodeRabbit), LLM APIs Why Join This Team? Technical impact: Shape how a senior engineering team builds software in the age of AI, with an unusually direct line of sight from your work to the business.

Modern workflow: Work at the forefront of AI-augmented development, with the guardrails that make it actually safe. Real momentum: Join a re-platform whose foundation is already built and running — your work unlocks the critical next phase rather than starting from zero.

Professional autonomy: Own the DevEx roadmap, the safety infrastructure, and internal tooling. Stability: Long-term remote contract with a high-caliber, senior team.
