Engineering Manager

Salary: £150,000 - 150,000 per year

Requirements

• We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with a strong Platform Engineering or DevOps leadership background.
• We need proven experience managing, mentoring, and developing engineering teams.
• We require experience delivering cloud landing zones and supporting large-scale cloud migration programmes.
• We need strong knowledge of AWS and/or Azure.
• We require hands-on expertise with Terraform and infrastructure automation.
• We are looking for excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• We value experience working in complex, multi-team environments; government or public sector experience is ideal but not essential.
• We need someone comfortable balancing technical delivery with strategic leadership.
• We are looking for experience with CI/CD, scripting, and modern platform engineering practices.
• A background in secure, scalable, and resilient cloud platform design is essential.

Responsibilities

• We lead and develop a team of platform engineers, including mentoring junior hires and supporting team growth.
• We provide technical direction and governance across platform and infrastructure services.
• We oversee the delivery, maintenance, and continuous evolution of our platform services.
• We balance hands-on technical involvement with strategic leadership.
• We own the design and implementation of cloud landing zones across AWS and Azure.
• We drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code, automation, and containerisation patterns.
• We ensure our platforms are designed with security, scalability, and resilience at the core.
• We establish and enforce integration standards across the engineering lifecycle.
• We support engineering teams with platform usage, CI/CD, and infrastructure design.
• We develop reusable platform patterns and best practices.
• We improve and standardise automation and deployment pipelines.
• We collaborate with senior stakeholders across government and consultancy teams.
• We translate technical concepts into clear guidance for non-technical audiences.
• We work closely with Heads of Infrastructure and Cloud within our Cloud Centre of Excellence.
• We embed security best practices into all platform and infrastructure design.
• We ensure compliance with government standards and policies.
• We lead on identifying and resolving complex service and platform issues.

We are a leading technology consultancy delivering a large-scale government cloud migration programme, and this role sits within our Cloud Centre of Excellence. This is a fully remote contract opportunity offering a competitive day rate of £600 inside IR35. You will join a growing team currently made up of three senior and lead engineers, with junior hires underway, and you will play a key role in shaping our secure, scalable cloud platform strategy.
