Senior Azure Platform Engineer

Salary: £42,000 - 72,500 per year

Requirements

• 8 years of hands-on Microsoft Azure engineering experience
• 3 years in a Senior Engineer or Architect role
• Production experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry or similar AI platforms
• Experience integrating Azure solutions with enterprise applications or ERP systems
• Strong experience designing secure, multi-subscription Azure environments
• Strong Python and/or C#/.NET development skills
• Practical understanding of production AI and agentic architectures
• Excellent problem-solving and technical communication skills
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and reference architectures
• Customer-focused with an understanding of enterprise security, governance and compliance
• Self-motivated and effective in a distributed, remote-first environment
• Fluent English, both written and spoken
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline
• Active Microsoft Azure certifications are highly desirable
• Contributions to open-source projects, technical communities or public speaking are advantageous

Responsibilities

• We design and implement production AI agents using Azure AI Foundry
• We build retrieval, vector search and knowledge architectures using Azure AI Search, PostgreSQL (pgvector) and Cosmos DB
• We integrate Azure OpenAI Service into scalable, model-agnostic AI solutions
• We implement guardrails using Azure AI Content Safety
• We evaluate and adopt new Azure AI capabilities, including AI Foundry and Copilot technologies
• We design solutions using Azure Functions, Container Apps, AKS and Logic Apps
• We build event-driven architectures with Event Grid, Service Bus and Event Hubs
• We design secure networking using Virtual Networks, Private Link and ExpressRoute
• We develop API architectures using Azure API Management and Application Gateway
• We build secure, multi-subscription Azure environments for enterprise customers
• We deliver Infrastructure as Code using Bicep, Terraform and ARM
• We design Entra ID, Managed Identity and Key Vault strategies
• We build CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
• We create reusable Bicep and Terraform modules
• We support customer deployments and technical architecture reviews

We are offering a remote, part-time freelance/independent contractor opportunity for a Senior Azure Platform Engineer / Architect supporting the delivery of next-generation Agentic ERP capabilities on Microsoft Azure. This flexible role is based anywhere and typically involves 0-25 hours per week depending on demand. You will report to our VP of Platform Engineering and help design the Azure platform that enables AI agents to securely interact with enterprise ERP systems. This position combines deep Azure expertise with modern AI platform engineering, enterprise integration and cloud architecture in a distributed, remote-first environment.
