Job Description

Salary: £40,000 - 50,000 per year

Requirements

  • We have 3+ years of experience in a Software Testing, QA Automation, or SDET role.
  • We have strong C# development skills and experience designing, building, and maintaining automated test frameworks using C# and modern testing practices.
  • We have strong hands-on experience developing or testing applications in Unity, including the Unity Test Framework, Play Mode testing, and Edit Mode testing.
  • We can build custom test tooling or simulation and harness solutions from scratch, especially where standard simulators or test doubles do not reflect real-world behaviour.
  • We have knowledge of Unity performance and memory profiling.
  • We have experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar test management tools.
  • We have experience performing structured manual testing.
  • We have a strong understanding of software testing principles and Agile development practices.
  • We have experience using Git and modern development workflows.
  • We have strong cross-functional communication skills and can translate between engineering implementation detail and QA/testing needs.
  • We are comfortable engaging in design discussions and backlog refinement/story writing, and we can spot and articulate quality or testability risks early.
  • We have a proactive mindset focused on quality, with strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • We have excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Experience testing AR, VR, or mixed reality applications is desirable.
  • Practical experience using AI tools to improve QA or engineering workflows is desirable.
  • Experience testing outside the game engine layer, such as API, backend, or data integrity testing against services such as a CMS, is desirable.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD tools is desirable.
  • Experience working within regulated environments, such as healthcare, is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • We design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for Unity applications.
  • We create and execute Play Mode and Edit Mode tests using the Unity Test Framework and develop extensions where necessary.
  • We build bespoke test tooling and harnesses for scenarios where Unitys built-in simulation capabilities are unreliable or give false confidence.
  • We extend automated testing beyond the Unity client itself, including data integrity and integration testing for connected systems such as our CMS, cloud-hosted services, and APIs.
  • We develop automated functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
  • We monitor and validate application performance, memory usage, and stability across supported devices.
  • We integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • We analyse test results and investigate failures.
  • We proactively look for ways to make manual testing faster and more reliable using capture, instrumentation, and AI-assisted tooling.
  • We execute test cases where automation is not yet built out or suited to automation, such as real-device spatial and AR interactions.
  • We validate application functionality, user workflows, UI behaviour, and overall user experience.
  • We reproduce, document, and verify defects.
  • We support release validation and user acceptance testing activities.
  • We act as a technical bridge between Unity developers and the QA function.
  • We champion QA involvement upstream in the design process.
  • We help shape user stories and acceptance criteria so QA-relevant information is present early.
  • We review requirements and acceptance criteria to ensure they are testable and complete.
  • We participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • We contribute to test plans, quality standards, and testing best practices.
  • We continuously improve automation coverage, testing processes, and quality reporting.
  • We actively champion the adoption of AI tooling within QA and testing workflows.
