How long do remote jobs actually stay posted?

Almost everything written about how long a job stays open cites employer surveys, which ask recruiters to recall a number. That is a different measurement from watching the listings themselves. We do the latter: every listing we ingest carries a first-seen and last-seen timestamp, and the gap between them is how long the role was continuously advertised.

The shape that falls out is heavily skewed. The typical listing is short-lived, which is what you would expect from an active hiring process. What is interesting is the tail: a meaningful minority of roles stay open past the point where a normal search would have closed. Those are the ones worth a second look before you spend an hour on an application.

A long-lived listing is not automatically a ghost job. Hard-to-fill senior roles legitimately stay open, and some companies leave an evergreen posting up for a role they hire continuously. But age is the single cheapest signal you can check, and it is one of the inputs behind the ghost-likelihood score on every JobiQueue listing.

The practical version: if a posting has been up far longer than its peers and the company has not touched it, treat the apply button as lower priority than a fresh listing at a company that is visibly moving.
