Should I apply to a job that was posted a month ago?

Applicants routinely burn hours tailoring resumes for roles that were filled weeks earlier. The cost is not only the wasted time. It is the opportunity cost against fresher listings where you are competing with a much smaller pool.

A useful triage: confirm the role on the employer’s own careers page, check that the apply link still loads a real form, and look for a named recruiter or hiring manager. If all three check out, apply normally. If only the aggregator copy exists, either skip it or send a short direct message instead of a full application.

When you do apply to an older listing, reaching a human matters more than usual. A posting that has been up for weeks is often being ignored in the applicant tracking system, so a direct, specific note to the person who owns the role is far more likely to get a response than another portal submission.
