Head of Software Engineering

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements

• Proven experience as a senior engineering leader, managing multiple squads and approximately 20 engineers across delivery and operations.
• Strong technical foundation, ideally full-stack, with exposure to AWS, C# .NET, TypeScript, Node and React.
• Deep expertise in modern SDLC, agentic AI-driven development, testing practices, automation and CI/CD; GitHub Actions experience is ideal.
• Strong grasp of secure software development, data governance and vulnerability management.
• Confident stakeholder management across senior leaders and strategic customers, with calm and clear communication under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of an engineering group made up primarily of contract resource and lead a multi-squad team.
• Set the tone for a high-performance, inclusive culture with clarity, accountability and momentum.
• Partner with Product to balance squads, align work to business goals and deliver value each cycle.
• Champion modern engineering practices across SDLC, CI/CD and QA, with an automation-first and test-first approach.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Security, DevOps and QA to deliver secure, well-architected services on a shared platform.
• Act as the principal point of escalation for contract resource and remove blockers quickly.
• Support people operations including hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, reviews, leave and contract-specific considerations.
• Drive agentic AI development practices across teams.
• Ensure contractors have the right tools, processes and guardrails to deliver consistently and efficiently.
• Report progress, risks and issues to Senior Leadership with clarity and confidence.
• Champion secure-by-design principles, data governance and timely CVE remediation in partnership with the CISO team.
• Support GTM with technical insight to strengthen product marketing, sales enablement and customer outcomes.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract based in London with 90% remote working, and the package is £105k to £110k plus bonus.
