Principal Platform Engineer

Salary: £90,000 - 90,000 per year

Requirements

• Strong experience with platform engineering, distributed systems, or edge computing
• Expertise in Kubernetes, containers, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD
• Knowledge of secure platform design, remote device management, or systems resilience
• Solid software engineering experience, with the capability to build automation, tooling, and core platform services
• A pragmatic engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and mentoring others

Responsibilities

• Design scalable platforms for edge and distributed environments
• Build secure, containerised infrastructure and orchestration capabilities
• Develop infrastructure-as-code, automation, and GitOps workflows
• Improve platform security through trusted device identity and secure provisioning
• Create robust observability and lifecycle management solutions
• Influence technical strategy while remaining close to the code

We are supporting an innovative engineering organisation delivering cutting-edge technology for complex, mission-critical environments in our search for a Principal Platform Engineer. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will help design and build resilient infrastructure for distributed systems operating in environments with limited or unreliable connectivity. You will join a highly skilled engineering team tackling problems that push beyond traditional cloud-native architectures and have a tangible real-world impact. The role is based in the South-West on a hybrid basis with three days on-site, and the salary is up to £110,000 per annum. Candidates must be eligible for SC Clearance.
